Adding Other Calendars to Your Google Calendar

One of the fun features of Google Calendar is the ability to add other calendars to your calendar. There are a number of Gustavus calendars that can be added to your calendar.

If you want to add all the Fine Arts Events, or the Swimming and Diving Calendar, you can.

To add the Swimming Calendar (or other calendar) browse to gustavus.edu/calendar >Click the pop-down under All Items > Select Sport > Select your sport.

When the calendar loads > Click the “Add Sport Swimming and Diving” link at the top > Click the Gustavus Google Calender Option > Click Yes, add this calendar.

After the calendar is added you will find it in your Other Calendars list.

If you would like to change the name of the new calendar to something more obvious – Click the pop down next to the calendar > Click Calendar Settings. Then rename the calendar.

Don’t Know Your WebAdvisor Password?

Passwords for WebAdvisor and email are not synchronized. This makes it sometimes difficult to remember your WebAdvisor password.

If you don’t know your WebAdvisor password, you can have it reset and emailed to your Gustavus email account. Just click the “I forgot my PIN and need to reset it” link on the lower left side on the following pages:

E-mail Quotas

Most users at Gustavus have an e-mail quota of 250 MB. A quota limits the amount of disk space that each user can use. If you are close to your e-mail quota, you will receive an e-mail notification. To check your e-mail quota and usage, please visit the GTS Tools Page. Click on the “Check disk usage” link. Your e-mail quota information and usage will be listed on the left side.

Empty Your E-mail Trash Mailbox

Be a good steward of your e-mail space and regularly empty your trash. The messages in your Trash mailbox take up space on the mailserver, and count towards your e-mail quota. Make sure you empty your Trash mailbox regularly. To empty your Trash mailbox in Webmail click the Empty Trash icon on the top toolbar.

WebAdvisor Problems

The WebAdvisor server is experiencing some technical problems. Users may be unable to log in or search for classes. Members of the Technology Services Staff are currently working on resolving the problems.

Email Outage

The Gustavus email server experienced an unplanned outage during early morning hours of Friday, April 20th. The software problem which caused the outage has been repaired. If you continue to have problems accessing email, please contact the Technology Helpline at x6111 or helpline@gustavus.edu.

Specialized Software for Labs/Classrooms

The end of another school year is just around the corner, and soon-to-follow will be the busy summer months for Gustavus Technology Services.

During the spring and summer, the Technology Services staff puts together a master set of software to be installed on the campus computer labs, faculty and staff desktops and teaching classrooms. This software set includes all of the campus standard software, such as Microsoft, Adobe and Internet applications. It also includes any specialized software packages purchased or requested by individual departments for installation in the labs or teaching classrooms. We would appreciate your help with this task.

If you have any specialized software that you will need installed in a computer lab (or updates to specialized software currently installed in a lab), please deliver the software and installation instructions to the Gustavus Technology Services by April 30, 2007.

Daylight Savings Time Changes

Not only is Daylight Savings Time changing our clocks, this year it is changing when we change our clocks. This means that our computers have to change too. All major software vendors have released patches and updates to ensure that the changes in Daylight Savings Time don’t cause us to be late for appointments.

Please verify that you have applied all the available patches and updates for your computer. On Windows machines – watch for the yellow shield in the Task Menu (lower right hand corner). Click on it and apply the updates. For Macintosh users – run Software Updates.
