Some of the smartphone options out there right now are the Blackberry, HTC Hero, Droid, G1, myTouch, Nexus One, iPhone, and the Palm Pre.

All of these phones can check your Gustavus e-mail for you while you are on the go. These devices rely on your cell phone data service, or some of them have Wi-Fi built-in. This makes the need for logging in to the Gustavus webmail interface unnecessary while on the go.

We have instructions for a few of these models located on our web site:

iPhone/iPod Touch (AT&T)
HTC Hero (Sprint) – These instructions should be similar for any Android based phone.

If you have a different smartphone or a cell phone with an e-mail application, all you need are the settings below. More and more of the cell phones that are coming out today will have the option to check an e-mail account.

IMAP Server – With mobile devices, always use IMAP and port 993
SMTP Server

It is important to note that you will need a data plan from your cell phone provider. If you only have a voice plan, you may be charged for data at an expensive rate.

To prepare:

1. Visit the GTS tools page.
2. Login with your Gustavus username and password.
3. Click on Alternate e-mail.
4. Enter an alternate e-mail address that you check regularly.
5. Click Submit.

If you forgot your password:

1. Please visit https://gts.gac.edu/gts/passwordreset
2. Type in your Gustavus username.
3. You will receive an e-mail at your alternate e-mail address you had set up. If you had not previously set up an alternate e-mail address, this process will not work for you. You would need to contact the Technology Helpline during regular business hours. Prepare to be asked for details such as Gustavus ID, etc.. for security purposes if calling the Helpline. Please bring photo ID such as your Gustavus 3 Crowns card if stopping by the Technology Helpline.
   
4. To reset your password, follow the e-mail’s directions.

Please assist us in better protecting your Gustavus account and the accounts of other Gustavus users by changing your password sometime before October 15th.  You can change your password by going to https://gts.gac.edu/gts/tools.

If you would like an extension, please e-mail helpline@gustavus.edu with the subject “Password Extension.”

If you need help changing your password or reconfiguring your software, please call the Technology Helpline at x6111.

1. Look at the sender, his email address isn’t even close to helpline@gustavus.edu.

2. Look at the reply-to: address. The email address is to some @live.co.uk email address.

3. It does not mention anything about our phone number. They may be able to spoof an email address, but it is unlikely they know the Technology Helpline’s phone number.
